Amma Two Wheeler Scheme

The Amma two-wheeler scheme was inaugurated in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the birth anniversary of the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa. It aims to empower poor working women by providing them with women-friendly vehicles at subsidised prices.

The key motto of the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme is “Ease of Use.” Therefore, the vehicles under the scheme are auto-gear or gearless. The scheme is also known as the Pradhan Mantri Amma Scooter Yojana or Amma Bike Scheme which strives to benefit one lakh women in Tamil Nadu.

Under the scheme, there is a 50% subsidy capped at ₹25,000 offered to working women who want to purchase a two-wheeler. The beneficiary has to bear the remaining cost through a loan or other means.

In addition to this, differently-abled women can access three-wheeled retrofitted two-wheelers by applying for the scheme. Keep reading to know more about the Amma scooter scheme, its eligibility criteria, benefits and the method of application.
